About Fiona Rogers

Pelvic Floor Education Fiona Rogers bio

I have been a physiotherapist for 40 years and have worked exclusively in pelvic health for the past 20.

I hold a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland and a Post Graduate Diploma (now known as a masters) in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Sydney. I have also completed the full range of courses in advanced pelvic health topics through Women’s Health Training Associates, as well as numerous industry post-graduate courses.

Over many years I have been an educator supervising physiotherapy students and mentoring new graduates in both public hospitals and my own practices for which I developed the pelvic health services within our multi – site group.

I also teach for the Australian Physiotherapy Association on the Women’s Pelvic Health and Women’s Health streams and have been an invited speaker at National and International conferences on the topics of neuromodulation, pain and pelvic health.

In 2022 I was a co-author of a Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation in the Management of Overactive Bladder: A Scoping Review

For the past 14 years I have co-owned the website Pelvic Floor Exercise with my partner and serve as the clinical director. We are a boutique online business selling a full range of pelvic floor rehabilitation devices to hospitals, health professionals and the public.

Education and Mentoring

Running the website, along with my current clinical work in a private multidisciplinary pain clinic, inspired my research into the area of neuromodulation as I saw the huge need for health professionals to receive more training in the area if they were to use it safely and effectively in clinical situations. The result were my courses, created to answer your questions and help you become confident in the use of these modalities. I originally taught “Electrical Stimulation for Pelvic Health” and “TTNS” face to face but, since the pandemic, have also made them available for self-paced learning online. I also have several new courses under development which will be available soon. I understand how time poor we all can be and taking a full course may often be on the ‘one day’ list. However, I continue to receive multiple requests a day from colleagues wanting answers on the spot for advice and guidance in this area.

I have always been overly generous with my time and knowledge but I can no longer do so due to the overwhelming number of requests and the resultant constraints on my time. This is why I have set up this new service as a means to safely answer your questions, in full knowledge of the circumstances and working through questions using clinical reasoning. Please understand this is to safeguard both you and me under our ethical obligations as health professionals.

My intention is to be available for specific queries on anything to do with neuromodulation or products used in pelvic health as well as case studies.

This is not a full mentoring service. If you are looking for all round mentoring please contact me as I can refer you to some excellent programs run by colleagues.

  • If you were going to email me to ask a question on patient care or for clarification of a concept eg. contraindications or the use of neuromodulation in certain situations, then please choose the option ‘ask me a question’. On average it takes about 10 -15 minutes to work through answers as I usually need to ask for more information to ensure I am answering in full knowledge of the details. As mentioned above, this is to safeguard both you and me under our ethical obligations.
  • If you have a case study you would like some guidance on or your email starts with Clinical Question for Fiona, please choose the option case study. This gives you 30 minutes with me either via Zoom or emails to work through clinical reasoning and come up with some treatment options and direction. This may be a difficult or complex case or just one that you have not seen before and you would like another opinion on. You will be asked to provide some initial details so I can plan our session.
  • If you or your team would like an update on what products to use for which conditions along with an overview of what is currently available choose the option free product in-service.
  • If you would like me to speak at an event, run a course for you or provide content please choose the option bespoke talks or courses and I will tailor something to your needs. This includes hosting my courses at your venue or a request to investigate options to run courses in your area. Cost will vary dependent on requirements.

Not sure? please fill in the enquiry form and I can suggest which may be most appropriate or we can discuss other options.

Yes you can choose from the available times.

I try to give a variety to hopefully suit everyone, including after hours, however if you have a request outside these times please email me and I will make every effort to help you out. I will provide a Zoom link once you have booked and paid via our online booking system.

Current courses are fully explained on the Teachable platform where they are hosted. Please follow the links to see the course outlines. Brief outlines are listed below:

Electrical Stimulation for Pelvic Health is an advanced course for health professionals working in pelvic health. We unravel the mysteries of electrical stimulation (NMES) and TENS making sense of how they work from a neurophysiological perspective and teach you the principles behind this so you can better choose correct parameters and treatment plans for specific conditions you treat within the pelvis. Using this modality is very much a case of principles not protocols. I teach you the principles so you can confidently work out your own protocols based on individual patient needs.

TTNS: Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation is a course covering everything you will need to know about TTNS. From its beginnings in pelvic health through to the myriad of applications – spoiler alert it isn’t all about OAB! – I teach you the physiology, the latest research and how to practically use this useful modality clinically.

I had the privilege of attending Fiona Roger’s course on E-stimulation for Pelvic Health today. I can’t speak highly enough about the course. With a full review of the anatomy and physiology needed to allow clinicians to develop good clinical reasoning, and a thorough review of the research both of what we know and also the problems with some of the methodology at present, this course really was of such a high standard. Fiona also gave some amazing analogies to help explain depolarisation vs repolarisation, and the concepts of spatial vs temporal recruitment of muscle fibres that I know will stick in my mind forever – the skill of a natural teacher. I had so many take home points to add to the depth of my understanding. I can’t recommend it enough if you want to advance your knowledge on this area of pelvic health treatment.

Taryn Hallam, Physiotherapist and Educator

Thank you for putting this course together. It is well organised and clear. I have learned more about the different uses of TENS and am feeling more confident to try it with some of my clients. I found the case studies incredibly helpful. All in all an excellent course!

MONICA, PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Thanks so much Fiona. Excellent course, easy to understand and lots of ways to practically apply what we have learnt.

KATHRYN, PHYSIOTHERAPIST

As a Physiotherapist with more than 25 years clinical experience in musculoskeletal health, I thought my days of utilising electrotherapy applications were done & dusted. I had been through the rise and fall of various trends as new options became available over the years and ultimately, preferred to rely on my hands to the do the work . However, with a more recent focus in Urology and Men’s Health I was curious, in particular, to learn about Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation for a range of continence disorders. I attended Fiona’s full day workshop and it was excellent! Fiona covered a plethora of topics across pelvic health that gave me a host of treatment options, especially tailored for immediate translation to clinical practice and patient home programs.. In particular, I greatly appreciated Fiona’s wealth of clinical experience and ‘practice- based evidence’ to match & build on the scientific research of others. Her broad understanding, effective delivery and relaxed communication/ language style further enhanced the quality of the course. No question was too hard to answer. So, if like me, if you haven’t had the opportunity to update in this very practical area of our profession, give yourself the gift of a day with Fiona Rogers.

Dr Joanne Milios, Physiotherapist
